Since the time of its foundation in 1834 the University has been generating progressive ideas, shaping Ukrainian intellect, and providing champions of upheld national liberation activity in Ukraine. It has always upheld the Ukrainian freedom-loving spirit.
University is a world-wide known academic institution. KU with it's more than 165 years of history stands now as a prominent multibranch centre of education and science, as the largest classic university in Ukraine. More than 18000 students are trained for 45 specialities at sixteen faculties and three university institutes. It employs above 2000 scholars and educators working at 156 departments. Every year the University graduates more than 3000 students. They have a considerable impact on Ukrainian industry, science, culture and administration.


L'viv University as an institution of higher learning was founded in 1661, but in fact its history is rooted in much earlier times. At the time teaching was conducted in compliance with the Jesuit higher school curriculum that had been elaborated at the end of the 16th century. Only in the middle of the 18th century had some changes been introduced into the curriculum about by the development of natural sciences.

At the beginning of the 20-th century L'viv University was one of the largest in Poland. Over the period between the academic years 1919-1920 and 1937-1938 student number had increased from 2,647 to 5,026 persons.
In September 1939 the Soviet troops entered L'viv and soon Halychyna became part of Soviet Ukraine and, consequently, of the Soviet Union. L'viv University also underwent radical changes. The Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic conferred the name of I. Franko to L'viv University by its Decree of January 8, 1940.
The proclamation of the independence of Ukraine brought about radical changes in every sphere of University life. The University major is now open for 61 teaching, scholarly and engeneering specialities and 109 branches. 2,127 students were admitted for full-time and 710 for extramural studies. In February 1998 the overall number of full-time students amounted to 9,384 and those studying by correspondence numbered 3,466. Over two thousand students graduate from the University annually.
L'viv University has been expanding its ties with the higher schools of Hungary, Germany, the USA, Canada, France, Austria, Belgium, Great Britain, Russia, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria, Portugal, Roumania, Moldova.



The history of the Kyiv-Mohyla (or Kievan Mohyla) Academy began in 1615, when found the Kyiv Epiphany Brotherhood Monastery. Its affiliated school merged in 1632 with the Kyivan Cave (Lavra) Monastery School to form a college, which was the forerunner of the Academy. It was the first national teaching institution to respond to the intellectual and spiritual needs of the native Ukrainian population.
During the time of its existence till 1817, the Academy was a widely respected educational institution, supported by all members of the Ukrainian society, Ukraine's first national political, cultural and government elite was form here.
In 1992, after a 175-year hiatus, the Kyiv-Mohyla Academy was reinstated as a secular teaching institution, becoming a symbol of the rebirth of independent Ukraine. In 1994 the Academy was granted the status of "National University". Currently, the University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy enjoys patronage of the President of Ukraine.


National Technical University of Ukraine "Kyiv Polytechnic Institute" was founded in 1898. NTUU"KPI" is one of the oldest and well-known technical universities in the world. University has 19 educational faculties, 5 educational-research institutes, 15 research institutes and 6 engineering centers, where 44 Academicians and Correspondent- Members of Academies of Sciences, over 200 professors, associate professors, assistants and 32800 students and postgraduates work and study here. Up to 800 foreigners from 50 countries of the world and 500 postgraduates including about 80 foreigners study at NTUU"KPI".
Lives and activities of the renowned scientists Dmitriy Mendeleyev, Igor Sicorsky, Sergey Korolev, Stepan Timoshenko, Yevhen Paton, Borys Paton and others were linked with NTUU"KPI".
The University has its Preparatory Department where foreign entrants, within 10 months course study Ukrainian, Russian, English, Mathematics, Physics, Biology and other subjects in the scope that is necessary for further mastering of the university program.
Diplomas and scientific degrees: Bachelor, Specialist, Master of Sciences, Master of Languages, Candidate of Sciences (PhD equivalent), Doctor of Sciences at faculties, educational institutes and research institutes listed here can be granted at NTUU"KPI".

National Agrarian University of Ukraine is a central high education institution of agrarian profile in Ukraine where degree preparation of experts for agriculture, forestry and veterinary medicine (young specialists, bachelors, masters, candidates and doctors of science) is carried-out.
It carries-out broad-scale international relationships with partner universities and companies, conducts considerable volume of the scientific-research work, develops experts of the agricultural complex, researchers and teaching staff.


Inter-regional Academy of personal management was founded in 1989. Today it's the largest private high education institution in Ukraine. Academy is a member of International Personal Academy and EUCEN European university of continuing education network.

International Research and Training Centre (IRTC) UNESCO/IIP

The International Research and Training CENTER of UNESCO/IIP of Information Technologies and Systems was founded in 1997 with the assistance of Ukrainian Government, UNESCO, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Education Ministry of Ukraine. It carries out its activities as a part of the Cybernetics Center of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine.
Educational program of the Center includes: training and re-training specialists in informatics, new information and telecommunication technologies on the basis of traditional and computer-based training technologies.

The International Center of UNESCO/IIP closely cooperates with many international organizations and establishments in the field of information processing (IFIP), automatic control and regulation (IFAC), UNESCO and MAGATE organizations and commissions, leading scientific centers and educational institutions. Studies supported by the international intergovernmental agreements (Germany, Poland, France, Russia) are running in the Center. The Center is an active participant of the international programs: Copernicus, TAP, INTAS, Eurasia, MAGATE, number of UNESCO programs.
The Center has possibilities for Mastersf training in a number of the most important areas: informatics, system analysis and control, intelligent decision-making systems, social informatics. Educational programs for different terms of study with different content, taking into account students' background have been developed on the basis of international and national achievements in computer science training.
More than 800 persons are trained on various educational courses and programs in the Center each year. There are, 30 Philosophy Doctors, 123 Doctors in the International Center staff, 18 of our scientists have been elected into different national and foreign academies. 19 scientific departments, several educational chairs, post-graduate and doctor studies function in Center.


The National Mining University of Ukraine (previously the Dnipropetrovsk Mining Institute) was founded in June 1899 and in June 1997 it was given the status of the National Mining University of Ukraine. At present it is the leading educational institution of the country. It has been training highly qualified specialists and scientists in all modern professions for: Geological Prospecting and Mining Industries, fuel and energy complexes, mineral and raw material complexes, mechanical engineering and automation systems, integration of information science into production. Graduates of the University are masters of computer technology, and are able to solve modern problems of industry development, economics and law. There are six faculties of full-time education and a Faculty of Extramural Education at the University.


Institute was organized in 1991 on the basis of a special design bureau "Intellekt". The Institute is under the Ministry of Education and National Academy of Sciences subordination. It's a consistent part of scientific educational unity "Intellekt" together with High School, technical school, liceums, and specialized physical mathematical secondary school.
The appearance of such an institution was a result of conversion processes of the military industrial complex. Nowadays, it's a scientific research institution dealing with the fundamental theoretical and applied investigations in the field of artificial intelligence problems and adjoining fields. The research staff is more than 340 scientists. The scientific investigations are combined with the educational process.


Kharkiv National University is among the oldest and most widely recognized universities of Eastern Europe. Founded in 1804 on the initiative of the prominent educator V.N. Karazin, for almost 200 years it has embodied the human strive for the light of knowledge and the peaks of science. The foundation of the University which inherited the best traditions of enlightment from the celebrated Kharkiv Collegium was a turning point in the development of Slobidska Ukraine, gradually transforming it into a leading region in the sphere of research and education.


The Kharkiv State Technical University of Radioelectronics trains about 7000 students on the basis of the complete secondary education conferring qualifications of Bachelor, Specialist, Master Degrees; on the basis of the higher education conferring scientific degrees of the Candidate (Ph.D.) and Doctor of Science according to the established order.

The teaching staff consists of more than 700 teachers, 88 doctors of science, professors, and more then 400 candidates of science (Ph.D.). More than 300 citizens from 24 countries of the world are educated in KTURE. The post-graduate courses offer wide possibilities for research work under the competent guidance of prominent scientists.


Kharkov State Polytechnical University is one of the oldest technical schools in the Ukraine. It was established in 1885. Kharkov State Polytechnical University opened a gateway in careers for thousands of talented people - engineers, scientists, leaders of industry, and social and political movements.

Academic and school traditions of the Polytechnical University were founded by the outstanding scholars, among them - the founder of the stability theory Academician Lycipunov A.M., a famous mathematician Steklov V.A., a Noble prize winner, physicist-theoretician L.D. Landau, the founder of the physical chemistry N.N. Beketov, creator of the first radio-controlled devices N.D. Pilchikov. The Honoured Doctors D.I. Mendeleev and N.E. Zhukovsky exerted a great influence on the establishment of its academic traditions. Near twenty thousands students, graduate students and interns study at the Kharkov State Polytechnical University today. Five thousand faculty members, scientific researchers and engineers work at the University. Among them there are 120 Academicians and corresponding members of the Academy of Sciences of the Ukraine, professors, doctors, and more than 1000 Ph.D. faculty members.


Aviation and astronautics are one of the most perspective directions in the modern industry. Therefore they are so much attractive to the young people who want to have an interesting and prestigious profession. KhAI gives such a possibility, it is a large scientific center. 26 scientific schools of different directions dealt with aviation, astronautics and rocket-designing develop within the university.

The Kharkov Aviation Institute was founded in 1930 and it consisted only of two faculties then - the airplane-design faculty and the engine-design faculty. At the moment of the foundation there were only 12 teachers and 69 students in KhAI. The institute developed extremely fast. In 1932 the passenger airplane with retracted undercarriage KhAI-1, designed by the teachers and graduate students of KhAI had taken off for the first time in Europe. The airplanes and the gliders created in the institute set the world records. In 1935 the first Soviet turbojet was projected by the institute teacher A.M. Liulka. The “jet group” worked in KhAI and the first rockets were projected since November, 1937.
The university is the co-author of the “Alpha” International space program, and also of scientific projects with USA, Japan, German, Mexico, Netherlands and China corporations.


Technical Academy was opened in Lviv at November 4, 1844. In 1851 the number of students made up 220 people. In October. 1877 the first telephone conversation on the territory of the Austro-Hungarian empire took place. Telephone line connected the Assembly Hall of the Main Building with the primises of the Department of Technical Chemistry. The title of Academy has changed several titmes: 1877 - Politechnical School, 1920 - Lviv Polytechnic, 1939 - Lviv Polytechnical Institute. In June, 1993 Lviv Polytechnical Institute got the status of university: Lviv State University "Lvivska Polytechnica". Now there are 19 departments, 77 chairs and 13 682 students are training there.


Odesa state university was founded in 1865 and now is the 3-d classical university in Ukraine acording to International personal academy reiting.
The teaching staff of 72 chairs consists of 24 Academicians, more than 1330 teachers, 126 doctors of science, professors, and more then 468 candidates of science (Ph.D.). 13050 students among them up to 500 foreigners from 25 countries study here at 30 specialities. The post-graduate courses offer wide possibilities for research work ay 20 specialities.

The University has its Preparatory Department where 250 foreign entrants from 25 countries, within 1 year course study Ukrainian, Russian, and other subjects in the scope that is necessary for further mastering of the university program.
